Project overview

DEEP-SEA SPY !

Come help us annotate images from the subsea geysers located at 1700 m depth in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans! The Deep-sea Spy project, led by the Deep-sea Environment Lab at the IFREMER Brest centre, invites you to discover hydrothermal fauna and participate in the Lab’s research.

Since 2010, video cameras have been deployed on the sea bottom to film thousands of hours of footage. All this footage makes for an enormous archive – and analysing it all requires much more time than all the lab’s scientists together could possibly devote… That’s why we need your help! Your participation will enhance the acquisition of the huge amount of data provided by the video footage! After processing the data, we can learn a great deal about the functioning of this ecosystem and the behaviour of the species that live there.
